Forlì, February 27th 2008
We are pleased to announce that the call for applications for a new generation of the two-year Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Research and Studies on Eastern Europe (MIREES) has been launched. The deadline for submitting applications on-line is May 15th, 2008. Attached endorsing documents should arrive at the University of Bologna, Faculty of Political Science «R: Ruffilli» at Forlì, Italy, by May 15th, 2008.
MIREES is a program taught entirely in English (120 ECTS) that provides a joint diploma of the Universities of Bologna, Ljubljana, Vytautas Magnus University at Kaunas, and Corvinus University of Budapest. The first year of courses and public lectures will be spent in Forlì, while in the second year a compulsory mobility of a minimum of 5 months will take place in the Partner Universities and, in particular cases, in the MIREES Associated Universities in Russia or in the Balkans. Further and more detailed information on the teaching plan and the Faculty, together with the application form, can be found at our web site: http://mirees.unibo.it.
MIREES is an innovative graduate programme, unique in Italy and Europe from various points of view. In particular, we would like to draw your attention to the following aspects:
- What is the MIREES added value? MIREES is devoted to students that have a BA background in Economics, Politics, International Relations, History, Agricultural studies or Cultural studies at large, and would now like to acquire a specialized,
in-depth knowledge of the Post-socialist Countries in transition, the new EU member
States (and their role in Europe after the Enlargements of 2004 and 2007), as well
as the New East-European Neighbour Countries.
- How this added value will be achieved? Firstly, by language skills, since MIREES offers courses of Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian, Bulgarian Polish, basic Russian and advanced Russian, as well as Slovak. Secondly, by developing interdisciplinary and
curricula studies in the economics of transition; politics and international relations; media, history and cultural studies focussed on Central, Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Thirdly, by strengthening the international dimension of the programme through student mobility and an international Faculty composed of prominent scholars of international repute and a genuinely international student body (in the previous 4 cycles we enrolled students from 21 countries from the US to Mexico, from Russia to Georgia, from Estonia to Macedonia, from Germany to the United Kingdom, from Albania to Poland, from Armenia to Norway, from Croatia to Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and, of course, Italy).
- How this added value will be relevant for future careers opportunities? MIREES properly prepares either for further academic studies at doctorate level, or for specific professional skills. MIREES seeks to forge insightful analysts, area experts, consultants, mediators for the needs of research institutes and offices, the European Commission, international agencies, voluntary organizations and NGO's, public administrations at different levels, managers for private companies, corporations and banks engaged in projects of investment, production, cooperation and development in East-Central Europe and the Balkans.
Finally, we would be extremely grateful if you could kindly encourage BA students interested in this specific field of studies to consider applying to this 2-year program and/or forward this message to your colleagues interested in this field.
With this aim in mind we are sending you as an attachment our promotional flyer in a pdf file; it briefly covers all the general aspects, the mission and the profile of our Master of Arts.
Should you need further information and some paper copies of the flyer via regular mail, please feel free to contact the Faculty Student Office (firstname.lastname@example.org, phone +39.0543.374145).
Thank you very much for your kind attention and cooperation.
